MZ
MZ owners and riders are a special band of motorcyclists; certainly on a par with those of any other marque. MZ's reputation has been built-up upon "value for money" for the road rider and success in motorcycle sport; notably road racing and long distance trials.
The magic of MZ was largely due to the involvement of Dipl. Ing. Walter Kaaden, who sadly passed away in 1996, aged 76 years. To Kaaden must go the title of the world's greatest ever 2-stroke engineer. Of course, before MZ came DKW, an equally famous name, and really this book is the story of both these two great marques from Zschopau in Southern Saxony. The book also covers Simson and the new era with the Skorpion.

The MZ models are among the most famous two-wheelers from the former GDR. Andy Schwietzer is one of the many fans of the two-stroke engines from the Erzgebirge. In this volume, he covers everything from the post-war RT-125 to the current high-flyers. There's no doubt about it: this Typenkompass contains all the important information that fans of this brand need to know, as always with excellent illustrations and technical details.
Each type is presented with a photo, a historical description and a technical sheet.
The DKW factory in Zschopau, once the world's largest motorcycle plant, was completely dismantled after 1945. Nevertheless, engineers started anew - first under the IFA brand, later as MZ. Until reunification, MZ two-stroke motorcycles were a common sight on roads in both East and West. Afterwards, MZ experienced a history of hope, setbacks, and eventual decline, similar to other DDR vehicle manufacturers. Frank Rönicke's book tells this story in detail and is regarded as the definitive work on MZ and its motorcycles.
