Ford Mustang (Top Model)

No other sports car has had such a significant influence on the mechanical industry across the Atlantic, and to some extent the rest of the world, as the Ford Mustang. This car is more than just an attractive model, since it participated in the creation of the pony car movement, forcing its competitors to react quickly or face severe commercial sanctions.

Stylistically, the Mustang has a silhouette free of superfluous ornaments, as well as a real personality. Just by contemplating the car, one guesses an underlying pleasure of driving, this appearance combined with a tight pricing will be at the birth of a new automobile concept.

Pages of the book Ford Mustang (1)

The signing of 418 812 purchase orders in a full year of production clearly demonstrates that the Mustang is not a machine reserved solely for rich young performance freaks, but has a much wider audience.
And that is the real tribute that must be paid to its designers. There are cars that manage to mark the socio-cultural landscape of a nation so important is their commercial impact. The Ford Mustang is undoubtedly one of them.

Ford Mustang, la première Pony Car

When Lee Iacocca convinced Henry Ford II to produce a four-seater sports car for the emerging youth, he would change the face of the automotive world. More than a commercial success, the Mustang created its own genre, an entirely new category known as the "pony car."

But Ford was just getting started. The original pony car would evolve into a muscle car, first with sports versions like the Mustang GT and Shelby GT 350, and then with true supercars like the Shelby GT 500, Super Cobra Jet 429, Boss 302, and Boss 429.
The Mustang's performance has continued to develop uninterruptedly to this day.

With carefully researched text by renowned Mustang historian Donald Farr, "Ford Mustang, la première Pony Car" celebrates the unbroken continuity of the Mustang legend.

Mustang en compétition - Le pony dans la course

The Mustang has established itself everywhere; on American circuits of course, but also on the Old Continent where it has won numerous trophies, such as the Tour de France Automobile, the European Touring Car Championship and the Saloon Car Championship in Great Britain. Throughout the pages of this book - the first entirely devoted to the Mustang's racing career - you will discover all the sporting exploits of this automotive legend.

This book also retraces in detail the saga of the Mustangs of the Ford France team and its star driver "Titi" Greder. And it does not forget to mention all the other French drivers who shone in France both in rallying and in hillclimbing with the help of many unpublished testimonies.

Mustang - le temps des copains

From its launch in 1964, the Ford Mustang ignited an America tired of gleaming chrome cruisers. Sleek and inexpensive, it quickly became the best-seller of the American automobile industry. Its incredible popularity went far beyond the borders of the United States to conquer Europe. In France, its price and relative rarity made it a cult car.

Henri Chemin, the fiery director of public relations at Ford-France, knew how to make it shine in racing while making it an icon of the 7th art. At the height of the yé-yé wave, the millions of readers of Salut Les Copains discovered their favorite stars at the wheel of this symbol of the American dream.

Few have been able to resist the inimitable song of its V8 and its suggestive lines. Throughout the pages of this book, Johnny, Sheila, Hugues Aufray, Hervé Vilard, Claude François, Danyel Gérard, Christophe, Dick Rivers and many others invite you to take a ride in their Mustang. So, here's a word of advice: fasten your seat belts! Well, when there are some...

Mustang, une américaine en France (3e édition)

The Ford Mustang has always been perceived very differently on each side of the Atlantic. Created as a new American automobile concept, the Mustang was aimed at a very broad, young and popular clientele in the United States. In France, the American car of the time had an image as loaded as its chrome: that of the nouveau riche of the post-war, with ostentatious, even provocative behavior.

When the Mustang arrived in France, the image it was subjected to as "the American" was quickly counterbalanced by an avalanche of very diverse clichés, more or less provoked, which would ultimately turn out to be rather positive. Its "muscle car" performance is surprising, because Europeans have rather contempt for these mountains of power without technical refinement, which the Americans represent for them.

The Mustang breaks yet another image of the American by making it sympathetic, closer and more accessible, with in particular a certain policeman from Saint-Tropez at the wheel.
It will subsequently become "the" romantic car of the 1960s with the famous "chabadabada" of Claude Lelouch. Undisputed star of "Un homme et une femme", cult film Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1966, the Ford Mustang deserves, alongside Anouck Aimé and Jean-Louis Trintignant, an acting award, so much did its performance make an entire generation fantasize. The stars and opinion leaders who covered the tabloids of the time, "Cinémonde" and other "Salut les Copains", Johnny Hallyday, Sheila and Ringo, Claude François, Jacques Anquetil, and so many others will provide free promotion.

Even beyond the specific image that the Mustang has created in Europe, there is indeed a French vision of the Mustang. It is through this particular perception that we will wander through the different eras to have another look at the different models, by rubbing shoulders with the users and their cars, which constitute these real families with very marked characteristics.
