Erlebnis Chur-Arosa-Bahn - Streifzug durch das Schanfigg

Het Schanfigg-dal, omringd door hoge bergen, wordt al bijna 2000 jaar gebruikt voor landbouw. De schilderachtige dorpen in het bovenste deel van het dal behoren tot de oudste Walser-nederzettingen in het kanton Graubünden.
Na langdurige discussies over de spoorlijn werd op 15 juli 1911 de Chur-Arosa Spoorwegmaatschappij opgericht. De bouw van de ongeveer 26 kilometer lange lijn begon op 1 augustus 1912 en na slechts twee jaar werd de spoorlijn op 12 december 1914 geopend. Talrijke historische afbeeldingen documenteren de complexe bouw in het moeilijke terrein, terwijl indrukwekkende kleurenfoto's de route van Chur naar Arosa in het bijzondere landschap tonen.
In de 19e eeuw reisden avontuurlijke reizigers te voet naar Arosa. De bouw van de postweg in 1890 en de gezonde berglucht veranderden het vroegere boerendorp in een mondaine kuuroord. In luxe sanatoria hoopten gasten uit heel Europa op genezing. Al snel ontstond het idee om een spoorlijn naar Arosa aan te leggen.

Dit boek laat met tekst en beeld zien hoe de spoorlijn het toerisme in Arosa beïnvloedde.
