Velocette: The Three Twins: Roarer, Model O and LE

The Velocette company is renowned for producing some of the finest single-cylinder motorcycles for both racing and private use. Less known is their production of twin-cylinder machines, including the Roarer for racing and the Model O for general use.
These bikes shared several engineering features, such as twin contra-rotating crankshafts, inline cranks, shaft drive, and swing arm rear suspension. The supercharged Roarer never raced due to the outbreak of war, which also halted the development of the Model O, a bike that could have been the first "Superbike."

After the war, the Goodman family, owners of Velocette Ltd, shifted focus to creating a "Motorcycle for Everyman," incorporating ideas from the Roarer and Model O into the twin-cylinder LE range. However, the LE motorcycles were poorly received by the public, and many attribute their production to the company's eventual decline.
