Les marques allemandes les plus diffusées en France dans les années 1930 étaient Deutz, Fendt, Lanz et Hanomag. Réputés pour être de bonne qualité, ces tracteurs étaient très appréciés. Mais depuis le début de la Seconde Guerre mondiale jusqu'à quelques années après la sortie de la guerre, ils sont interdits à la vente.
Ils sont à nouveau autorisés à l'importation sur le sol français à partir de 1950. À nouveau fortement diffusés, ils ont connu un bel essor auprès des agriculteurs français qui ont pu, en plus, découvrir les modèles de chez Porsche ou de chez Allgaier. Hormis Deutz ou Fendt, les autres marques allemandes ont aujourd'hui disparu.
