After the Second World War, the later GDR was at a great disadvantage in tractor and tow tractor construction. Only two classic manufacturers, both based in Nordhausen, remained in the Soviet occupation zone and had to start practically from scratch.

Comme en Allemagne de l'Ouest, l'agriculture en Allemagne de l'Est avait rapidement besoin de nouvelles machines après la guerre.
