Diesel Locomotives - Italy: Books - History and Types
Books on the history, types and technology of diesel locomotives of the FS (Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane) and other railway companies in Italy.
Materiale di trazione termico (Volume 1)
This volume examines all light shunting locomotives from their origins until the 1980s, when the last units of the Gruppo 213 series from 4001 to 4003 were produced. Additionally, the second part of the book analyzes all medium/light shunting locomotives, also from their origins, starting from the immediate post-war period until the early 1990s, when the last units of the Group 255 were delivered. The Gruppo 255 represented an evolution of the extensive Unified Gruppo 245 and, in my opinion, the pinnacle development of the C axle arrangement in Italy.
This second volume dedicated to diesel traction equipment focuses on heavy shunting locomotives: from the Ne 120, of American origin, which will become the D. 143, to the modern units with hydraulic transmission D. 146, including its variant, a single example of D. 147, and not forgetting the units with electric transmission InLoc D. 145. Additionally, it covers numerous diesel train locomotives: from D. 341 to shuttle D. 445, the latest additions to the FS fleet, without overlooking the two "war locomotives," which saw very little action on the battlefield, 356 and 372.
