Steam Locomotives - Deutsche Bundesbahn: Books - History
Books on the history and technology of the steam locomotives of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) since 1945, including newly built and converted locomotives.
Moderne Dampfloks nach 1945 - Neubau, Reko, Umbau, Generalreparatur
After the Second World War, Germany experienced a brief renaissance in the field of steam locomotive construction. Until the early 1960s, both the German Bundesbahn and the German Reichsbahn of the GDR invested in the new development or expensive upgrading of steam locomotives to the most modern standards. Even some West German private railways acquired steam locomotives at this time.
This volume presents a comprehensive presentation of modern German steam locomotive technology after 1945. In a compact overview, the reader learns which vehicles were procured, modernized or reconstructed almost simultaneously in East and West.

Moderne Dampfloks nach 1945 - Neubau, Reko, Umbau, Generalreparatur
Wittes Neubaulokomotiven - Die letzten Dampfloks der Deutschen Bundesbahn und ihre Schöpfer 1949 bis 1977
When the German Bundesbahn was founded in 1949, the end of steam traction was already foreseeable. Nevertheless, the DB acquired five steam locomotive series by 1959. These machines were the work of Friedrich Witte (1900-1977) from the Bundesbahn Central Office in Minden, who had held the office of "design officer" for steam locomotives at the old Reichsbahn since 1942. He kept this job at the Bundesbahn until 1965 and is therefore considered the "father of new locomotives".
This richly illustrated review of the life and work of the railwayman who developed the "Witte smoke deflectors" and made the "Super Pacifics" of the 01.10 series operational for the German Bundesbahn, is a fitting tribute to Friedrich Witte's life's work.

Dampfloks im Wirtschaftswunderland - Die 50er, 60er und 70er Jahre
Those were the days when the elegant 01s found their last refuge in Upper Franconia, coal and steel trains were transported through the Ruhr region by steam, and the sound of the three-cylinder 44s roared through the valleys in the Weserbergland every day. But in 1977, the German Bundesbahn (DB) irrevocably stopped using steam locomotives on a regular basis. With the conclusion of this final chapter of a glorious history, an era came to an end in the former Federal Republic of Germany.
This illustrated book by Andrew Fox celebrates the last decades of steam traction in West Germany.

Dampfloks im Wirtschaftswunderland - Die 50er, 60er und 70er Jahre
Schluss-Akkord - Der DB-Dampfbetrieb 1970 bis 1975
At the end of the steam locomotive era in the Federal Republic of Germany, there was an economic boom that delayed the end of steam engines in scheduled service by several years. From 1970 onwards, the Federal Republic experienced a rapid upswing, during which full employment was even achieved at times. This economic boom resulted in increased transport services, so that the DB's ambitious goal of doing without steam locomotives from 1973 onwards was no longer feasible. On the contrary: Steam traction experienced a renaissance that reached its peak with the oil price crisis in 1973/74 and the associated recommissioning of coal-fired steam locomotives.

Schluss-Akkord - Der DB-Dampfbetrieb 1970 bis 1975
Museum locomotives delight not only passengers, but also photographers along the route. One of the latter is Joachim Kraus, who regularly seeks out the most beautiful photo spots to capture the steam, diesel and electric locomotives. As a fan of classic analogue photography, he makes elaborate hand prints of each of his subjects.
This illustrated book contains his most beautiful photos, which bring us back to numerous museum locomotives in Germany and the Czech Republic, some of which have not been in use for quite some time. This unique combination offers one thing above all: pure nostalgia.
Dampfloks der deutschen Museumsbahnen - seit 1966 (Typenkompass)
Since 1988, the steam locomotive has been no longer used to pull scheduled trains on Germany's standard gauge tracks. But steam technology has still not lost any of its fascination. This is ensured by numerous railway associations, which let steam run on weekends in all parts of the Federal Republic. This "Typenkompass" provides information on all preserved steam locomotives in the tried and tested manner.
Each type is presented with a photo, a historical description and technical data.
