This revised edition, enriched with new images, takes into account the new steam locomotives and the reconstructed steam locomotive series of the DR as well as the diesel locomotives from GDR and USSR production. After the Second World War, the state railways in the East and West went their separate ways. This had a lasting impact on the construction and maintenance of steam and diesel locomotives.
This book not only briefly and competently describes all steam and diesel locomotive series of the GDR, but it also explains why the Deutsche Reichsbahn developed its steam and diesel locomotives differently than the Deutsche Bundesbahn did. The complex repair techniques as well as the new and reconstructed steam locomotive series are taken into account, as are the diesel locomotives acquired from the USSR.
Year after year, the narrow-gauge railways attract numerous tourists. The legendary "Schmalspurbahn-Archiv" is undoubtedly one of the classics in the transpress program. It has been in demand for years and is now available again. Here, railway enthusiasts can find all the information they need about the history and technology of the narrow-gauge railways of the former GDR. Numerous historical black-and-white photos take the reader on a unique railway journey.
Enteignet - Wie die Klein- und Privatbahnen in der späteren DDR verstaatlicht wurden - 1945-1952
While in the West German occupation zones the private railways were able to continue their operations as independent companies after the end of the Second World War, a dramatic change occurred in the Soviet occupation zone and later the GDR: railway company by railway company, the private railways there were transferred to the Deutsche Reichsbahn. In addition, some railway lines were dismantled as reparations.
This book by Lothar Weber gives a complete overview of all former private railways and their vehicles between 1947 and 1953.
