"Autoboten" was de naam van de vaartuigen met de motor voorin die vanaf 1900 snel populair werden door spectaculaire races op de Seine en voor de kust van Monaco - om net zo snel weer vergeten te worden na de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Beroemde fabrikanten waren medeverantwoordelijk voor de hausse: in Duitsland bijvoorbeeld BMW, Daimler, DKW, Ford en Maybach. In autoboten zaten ook motoren van Alfa Romeo, Austin, Chrysler, Duesenberg, Fiat, Hispano-Suiza, Isotta-Fraschini, Napier, Packard, Peugeot, Renault en nog vele andere.

The World Water Speed Record - The Fast and the Forgotten

The quest for the Water Speed Record is one of the most dangerous, least forgiving and most unheralded of endeavours. Defined by the fatal crash of Donald Campbell in 1967 on Lake Coniston, it lacks some of the glamour of the land speed record, yet hundreds have made attempts over the years - many with spectacular and sometimes tragic results.
