Erlebnis Chur-Arosa-Bahn - Streifzug durch das Schanfigg

La valle di Schanfigg, circondata da alte montagne, è caratterizzata dall'agricoltura da quasi 2.000 anni. I pittoreschi villaggi della parte superiore della valle fanno parte delle più antiche colonie walser del cantone dei Grigioni.
Dopo lunghe discussioni sul tracciato della ferrovia, la Compagnia della Ferrovia Coira-Arosa è stata fondata il 15 luglio 1911. I lavori di costruzione della linea di circa 26 chilometri sono iniziati il 1° agosto 1912 e, dopo solo due anni, la linea è stata inaugurata il 12 dicembre 1914. Numerose immagini storiche documentano questa difficile costruzione in un terreno complesso, mentre splendide fotografie a colori illustrano il percorso da Coira ad Arosa nel cuore di un paesaggio eccezionale.

Nel XIX secolo, dei viaggiatori intraprendenti raggiungevano Arosa a piedi. La costruzione della strada postale nel 1890 e la fama dell'aria pura di montagna trasformarono questo semplice villaggio agricolo in una località termale rinomata. In lussuosi sanatori, pazienti provenienti da tutta Europa venivano in cerca di guarigione. L'idea di costruire una linea ferroviaria verso Arosa si impose rapidamente.
