Die V 160-Familie (Band 3) - Die Baureihe 218

The diesel locomotives of the 218 series represent the technical high point of the extremely successful V 160 family of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. Even after a good four decades of use, the 218 is still indispensable at DB AG today, even though its ranks have thinned considerably in recent years.

Although the use of the 218 at DB Regio is declining sharply, numerous machines have found new tasks in other areas, including as ICE towing locomotives at DB Fernverkehr, in the Sylt shuttle service of DB AutoZug, in the nationwide construction train service and much more.
The use of the 218 is therefore extremely varied today. A number of these machines have now found a new home with private railways or are even being preserved as museum locomotives.

Rundnasen und Kartoffelkäfer - Die NoHAB-Europalokomotiven

Las locomotoras diésel apodadas "Rundnase", "Dicknase" o "Kartoffelkäfer" han alcanzado un estatus de culto. A partir de 1954, se fabricaron 159 locomotoras de este tipo bajo licencia de EMD en NoHAB, en Trollhättan (Suecia), para Noruega, Dinamarca y Hungría. Además, AFB produjo 40 locomotoras para Bélgica y cuatro para Luxemburgo. Su diseño se basa en la serie F y la clase B estadounidenses, pero adaptado a las necesidades europeas.

Los últimos servicios regulares terminaron en 2000/2001 en Hungría, Noruega y Dinamarca. En Bélgica fueron retiradas unos años antes, en Luxemburgo en 1994. Sin embargo, muchas de estas locomotoras robustas siguen operando en compañías ferroviarias privadas, principalmente en Dinamarca, Suecia y Alemania.

La primera parte del libro ilustrado repasa los últimos años de servicio en los ferrocarriles estatales. La segunda parte se centra en las locomotoras aún activas, con especial atención a Alemania.
