MAN Ackerschlepper 1921-1963 (Typenkompass)

MAN began building tractors in 1921, but then initially concentrated on the more lucrative trucks, before starting building tractors again after 1945 with the 50 hp AS250. By 1962, around 50 000 MAN agricultural tractors had been produced.
MAN tractors have long been popular collectors' items. This Typenkompass describes the history and technique of these tractors in the usual manner.

MAN & Diesel: 100 Jahre Motorkraft für die Landwirtschaft (Band 2) - München

The move of tractor production to Munich in 1955 was accompanied by the conversion of engines to the M process. With Diesel's principle that only direct injection is economical, MAN ushered in a new era in the construction of vehicle diesels.
MAN expanded its tractor range, from the 14 hp 2F1 for small businesses to the 60 hp 4T1 for the heaviest work. In 1960, MAN created another new type of tractor, the grassland tractor: all-wheel drive, low center of gravity and still good ground clearance for safe work on slopes that no combine harvester can drive on.

In 1963, MAN handed over its tractor production to Porsche Diesel. In 1963, the production of MAN tractors ended. But MAN remained connected to agriculture in both East and West with built-in engines.
Since 1967, engines based on the MAN M process have been used in standard tractors in the GDR. Schlüter and Fendt rely on MAN engines in their tractors. This period is documented and illustrated in the second volume and will also delight fans of powerful engines: MAN engines with over 1000 hp now drive the forage harvesters from Claas and Krone.

MAN Traktoren

The author presents a comprehensively researched, richly illustrated chronicle of MAN tractor construction, in which all models built up to 1963 are recorded.
He begins with the design work on a motor-powered plough by Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg AG in 1916, describes and shows the data of the AS 250 agricultural tractor from the time shortly before the Second World War, and then presents all types and series of models in detail.

Revised new edition.

MAN Traktoren (Schrader Typen Chronik)

MAN began building tractors on a large scale with big, powerful tractors for the extensive German agricultural areas east of the Elbe.
After the war, the company had to adapt the size and performance of its vehicles to the much smaller conditions in West Germany. However, the high price of these technically high-quality vehicles always stood in the way of a resounding success.
In this book, Wolfgang Westerwelle offers a fascinating overview of the extraordinary tractor production at MAN.

MAN & Diesel: 100 Jahre Motorkraft für die Landwirtschaft (Band 1) - Augsburg-Nürnberg

MAN and Diesel are inseparably linked through the development of engine technology. Almost five years of intensive collaboration in the development of the diesel engine in the Maschinenfabrik Augsburg, the founding company of MAN, left its mark on all those involved. One of Diesel's principles, that only an engine with direct injection works really economically, was adopted by MAN and has not been abandoned to this day.

A leader in steam engine technology, MAN delivered a steam cable plough to France in 1919, paid for by the German Reich as reparations. This marked the company's entry into agricultural technology.
In 1921, a motor plough was introduced and rated as the best on the market. In 1938, MAN presented the 50 hp AS 250 wheeled tractor. In 1948, MAN broke new ground with the AS 325 A agricultural tractor. The design - large wheels at the rear, small wheels at the front and all driven - was initially viewed critically. Today it is standard.

In his inimitable, knowledgeable and humorous way, Jürgen Svensson reviews the tractor and engine construction at MAN, also in comparison to the competition, and outlines the important cornerstones of agricultural technology.
How and, above all, why does the cumbersome motor plow become a machine that can be used every day and even makes horse power superfluous? Jürgen Svensson explains things in a wonderfully understandable way, even if it is complicated.

This first volume goes from the beginnings in Augsburg and Nuremberg to 1955, when tractor production was moved to Munich.
