EMB-314 Super Tucano: Brazil's Turboprop Success Story Continues
Unlike many advanced trainers converted to combat roles, the Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucano was designed from the start as a rugged attack aircraft. It can operate continuously for weeks with high availability and perform a wide range of missions. The Super Tucano differs significantly from its predecessor, the EMB-312 Tucano.
The aircraft carries two .50-caliber machine guns in its wings and can use up to 130 types of weapons on five external hardpoints under the wings and fuselage.
More than 250 Super Tucanos have been produced, performing armed reconnaissance, escort, counterinsurgency, and limited air defense missions. The aircraft is in service with Brazil and 11 other countries.
Produced under license in the USA, Colombia, Afghanistan, the Dominican Republic, Mauritania, and Brazil, the Super Tucano has been actively used in operational missions. The United States is considering acquiring up to 300 aircraft for close air support roles.
This book provides detailed information and illustrations on the design, capabilities, and operational history of the EMB-314 Super Tucano.
