Q Ship vs U-Boat - 1914-18 (Osprey)

Schiffe der Q-Klasse gab es in allen Formen und Größen - Küstendampfer, Trawler, Barken, Yachten oder Schoner -, doch alle mussten harmlos wirken, um ihre Gegner an die Oberfläche zu locken und zum Angriff zu provozieren. Der Kapitän des Q-Schiffes blieb mit einigen wenigen anderen Besatzungsmitgliedern an Bord, die die Geschütze bedienten und bis zum günstigsten Zeitpunkt verborgen blieben, um das U-Boot zu enttarnen und anzugreifen.

Das Konzept der Q-Schiffe entstand früh im Krieg, als keine andere Methode zur Bekämpfung der U-Boot-Bedrohung geeignet schien, und florierte, bis neue Technologien und Taktiken entwickelt, getestet und implementiert wurden.
