By 1960, Buick sales were tumbling steadily downward and it became obvious that drastic changes were required in not only styling and performance, but in the GM Division's overall public image too. The Riviera of the future would not exist simply as a stylish version of another model in the Buick line-up.
The Riviera was slated to lead Buick's renaissance. The Riviera would shed what was left of Buick's conservative, immediate post-war image, and thrust the Division into the groovy, swinging sixties. The Riviera over the next decade was seen as a more sophisticated 'cool' aimed at the successful up-and-coming, shirt and tie, business types, rather than the tie-dye T-shirt, blue jean, mod squad!
Included in this book is all the pertinent data and information on the 1963 to 1973 Riviera models enthusiasts will enjoy, as well as a quick look at some of the sweetest customised Riviera models ever built that cruise the roadways today!

David Buick's Marvelous Motor Car: The men and the automobile that launched General Motors
David Buick led a team that created gasoline engines for motor cars that were truly remarkable. They were powerful, durable and efficient engines that proved formidable on race tracks and in hill climbs. And, more important, those engines provided the power to negotiate the deeply rutted mud, clay and sand roads that often defeated other cars in the early 20th century.
David Buick created one of two big story lines that connected in Flint, Michigan, in 1904. His theme was about a faltering little company with a great engine, Buick Motor Company. The other big story line was that of the brilliant organizer and promoter, William C. Durant. When Durant was introduced to the Buick automobile, it was almost like an explosion in the business world. That combination, Durant and Buick, formed the beginning of General Motors.

David Buick's Marvelous Motor Car: The men and the automobile that launched General Motors
This book highlights General Motors oldest division during some of its most successful and exciting years, 1946 through 1960. When World War II ended in 1945, Buick was champing at the bit to forge ahead in the sales race with its reputation for size, prestige and straight eight cylinder power in every model. By 1954, Buick succeeded in reaching third place in sales, ahead of Plymouth. But after a few heady years among the sales leaders, some unfortunate styling decisions in 1957 and 1958 would topple Buick from the leadership pedestal.
Share these heady days of growth and success for an American automotive icon with superb quality original factory photos from the time when Buick was one of America's most popular automobiles. Relive the arrival of 'ventiports', Dynaflow drive, sweep spears of chrome, and all of the other Buick trademarks that became part of the American lexicon.
All Buick convertible models from 1949 through 1964 and includes: Super, Special, Roadmaster, Century, Invicta, Electra 225,Limited Wildcat and Skylark. Over 150 large B&W photos. Details, specifications, and historial overviews. The perfect primer and quick reference guide.
