Deutsche Steilfeuergeschütze - 1914-1945

High-angle guns were developed to hit targets that were not directly in the field of view. To achieve this and to be able to shoot over obstacles, they had to be fired at a steep angle.
Among the most famous and heaviest high-angle guns in Germany were the "Big Bertha" and the "Karl" mortar. They were used primarily against enemy fortresses as "concrete crackers".

In this volume, Gerhard Taube tells how this type of weapon developed. He describes in detail the history of the heavy behemoths and their use in both world wars. Each type is presented with a photo, a historical description and a technical data sheet.
