Racing Cars of the Sea / Automobili del Mare : Cantiere Navale San Marco 1953-1975

Fra il 1954 e il 1975, il cantiere navale milanese San Marco ha scritto alcune delle pagine più importanti nella storia della motonautica del dopoguerra. San Marco è stato infatti l'unico cantiere ad aver utilizzato, sia per le sue barche da corsa che per quelle di produzione, propulsori di derivazione automobilistica costruiti dalle Case italiane più prestigiose quali Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Fiat e Abarth.

Non a caso, molti fra i modelli prodotti dalla San Marco furono denominati "600 del Mare", "Giulietta del Mare" o anche semplicemente "Appia", tutti motoscafi veloci, in legno di particolare pregio, dalle linee eleganti e dai dettagli raffinati.
Al pari di uno stilista di moda o di un carrozziere di fama, per oltre 20 anni, Oscar Scarpa, fondatore del cantiere, costruì con suo figlio Sandro circa 600 barche esclusive, ognuna con caratteristiche uniche, sia tecniche che estetiche.
San Marco può anche vantare una lunga serie di successi sportivi ottenuti nelle corse più prestigiose, cui si aggiungono più di 30 record mondiali di velocità.

L'opera è illustrata da centinaia di documenti e immagini d'archivio per lo più inedite, ed è completata da importanti apparati che comprendono l'intera produzione e la cronologia dei record.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the still young automobile industry opened up another exciting market: transportation on water. Carboats were the front-engined vehicles that quickly became popular from 1900 onwards thanks to spectacular races on the Seine and off Monaco - only to be forgotten just as quickly after the Second World War.
