In January 1937, the first electric observation railcar completed its journey on the Mittenwaldbahn. The DRG initially had two individually driven railcars manufactured by the Heidelberg-based Fuchs wagon factory for excursion purposes.
This EK book highlights the technical equipment, modifications and operational history of the vehicles known as the ET 91 from 1940.
After the ET 91 02 was destroyed in Munich in the war year of 1943, the refurbished ET 91 01 was able to be put back into operation from the summer of 1949 and gained a considerable fan base for almost 50 years.
For the first time, detailed reports are provided on the investigations carried out by the DB AG long-distance transport division into the restoration of the vehicle in 1996 and the plans for replacement vehicles.
The three observation railcars with diesel-hydraulic drive, which were also purchased from Fuchs in Heidelberg in 1936 and 1939, are also taken into account. These vehicles were intended to be used for attractive day trips to the Rhine, Moselle, Ahr, in the Sauerland and in Saxon Switzerland.
