Benelux Railways

I Paesi Bassi, il Belgio e il Lussemburgo dispongono ciascuno della propria rete ferroviaria, strettamente collegata ai paesi vicini. Tutti offrono servizi passeggeri regolari, generalmente puntuali o più frequenti, all'interno del paese e oltre i confini.

Nei Paesi Bassi, la Nederlandse Spoorwegen gestisce la maggior parte del traffico, completata da Arriva e Syntus su alcune linee locali.

In Belgio, tutti i servizi passeggeri sono gestiti dalla NMBS/SNCB, che serve le regioni fiamminga e vallona. Il CFL lussemburghese gestisce un'ampia rete con collegamenti nazionali frequenti e numerosi servizi internazionali, in particolare dalla Germania e dalla Francia.

John Law visita le ferrovie di questa regione dagli inizi degli anni 1970 e ha percorso quasi tutte le linee aperte ai viaggiatori. Ha fotografato l'evoluzione della rete e raccolto una importante collezione. Questo volume presenta una selezione delle sue migliori immagini.

Although technical, this book is accessible to all.

More than 320 engravings, diagrams and plans illustrate this text and improve its understanding. Here, all the technical parts and the various elements of the locomotive first, then of the tender are dissected and analyzed. The reversal of the direction of travel is described at length, supported by engravings, as are the brakes, essential organs which have largely contributed to making the railway one of the safest means of transport in the modern world.

This book is also illustrated with many magnificent black and white photographs of locomotives and drivers in action that the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Belges and enthusiasts have kindly made available to us for this reissue and which will allow the "Old-timers" to rediscover the very special atmosphere of this universe.

Rundnasen und Kartoffelkäfer - Die NoHAB-Europalokomotiven

Le locomotive diesel conosciute come "Rundnase", "Dicknase" o "Kartoffelkäfer" hanno raggiunto lo status di culto. A partire dal 1954, 159 locomotive di questo tipo furono costruite su licenza EMD presso la NoHAB di Trollhättan (Svezia) per Norvegia, Danimarca e Ungheria. Inoltre, la AFB produsse 40 locomotive per il Belgio e quattro per il Lussemburgo. Il progetto si basa sulle serie F e B americane, ma fu adattato alle esigenze europee.

Le ultime operazioni regolari si conclusero nel 2000/2001 in Ungheria, Norvegia e Danimarca. In Belgio furono ritirate dal servizio qualche anno prima, in Lussemburgo nel 1994. Tuttavia, molte di queste robuste locomotive sono ancora in servizio presso ferrovie private, principalmente in Danimarca, Svezia e Germania.

La prima parte del libro illustrato ripercorre gli ultimi anni di servizio presso le ferrovie statali. La seconda parte si concentra sulle locomotive ancora attive oggi, con particolare attenzione alla Germania.
