P&O Cruise Ships

La P&O fu fondata nel 1837 e mantenne una rete di rotte verso l'India, l'Estremo Oriente e l'Australia, risultando la prima scelta per la maggior parte dei passeggeri diretti in quella parte del mondo.
Successivamente, la P&O acquisì la British India Line, la Union Steamship Company of New Zealand, la New Zealand Shipping Company e la flotta del British Coast Lines Group. Nel 1960 venne creata la P&O Orient Lines per gestire le flotte di entrambe le compagnie, e alla flotta vennero aggiunte le navi Oriana e Canberra.

Le navi più vecchie furono dismesse e altre convertite per crociere con rotte dal Regno Unito e dall'Australia. Tra il 1947 e il 1962, la P&O trasportò 427.983 migranti, a cui se ne aggiunsero altri 500.000 nei successivi otto anni.

Tuttavia, questo settore commerciale fu gradualmente trasferito alle compagnie aeree ed era chiaro che il futuro di P&O risiedeva nelle crociere, con navi all'avanguardia costruite appositamente.
La Princess Cruises fu acquisita dalla P&O nel 1974 e la P&O Princess Cruises si fuse con la Carnival Corporation nel 2003.
