Die Höllentalbahn und Dreiseenbahn - Von Freiburg in den Schwarzwald

The Höllentalbahn and the Dreiseenbahn are among the most famous and beautiful German railway lines. When the railway line from Freiburg reached the heights of the Black Forest around Hinterzarten, Titisee and Neustadt almost 130 years ago, the Höllentalbahn was considered one of the great feats of engineering.
It was an extremely difficult undertaking to overcome the narrow valley from Hirschsprung via Posthalde and Höllsteig to Hinterzarten by cogwheel. Later, the rear Höllentalbahn Neustadt - Donaueschingen and the Dreiseenbahn via Feldberg-Bärental to Seebrugg were added.

The Freiburg editor, author and photographer Gerhard Greß has compiled many previously unknown images, documents, stories and memories from all periods relating to the Höllental and Dreiseenbahn. In addition to detailed technical and historical information - for example on electrification with 20 kV/50 Hz - this extraordinary work contains numerous personal experiences of the author and old railway workers as well as an article about the motor post as a supplement to the Höllental and Dreiseenbahn.

Bahnen in und um Stuttgart - Die 60er bis 70er Jahre

The Swabian railway world in and around the state capital Stuttgart was extremely varied between 1960 and 1980. At that time, the three types of traction - steam, diesel and electricity - were still present almost everywhere: the last steam locomotives ran on the tracks, diesel locomotives hauled express trains, the S-Bahn was still a future project and numerous electric vehicles dated back to the pre-war period. Added to this was the diversity of streetcars, private and industrial railways.

Thomas Estler and Burkhard Wollny report knowledgeably about this exciting era in words and pictures.

Bregtalbahn

The Bregtalbahn in the Black Forest began operations in 1893 as a branch line of the Black Forest Railway after a tough struggle by residents for a connection to the rail network. For almost 80 years, passenger and freight trains ran between Donaueschingen and Furtwangen through the magical Bregtal.
In 1972, the railway connection between Bräunlingen and Furtwangen was closed and dismantled. Today, only a few relics remain to remind us of the railway history of the upper Bregtal.

Robert Hönl, a profound expert on regional railway history, has selected mostly unpublished images from various private collections, collected stories from Bregtal residents and former employees about the railway line and extensively researched the history of the Bregtal Railway.
This illustrated book invites technology enthusiasts and lovers of the region alike on an exciting journey into the past and documents the transformation of the former railway line into a popular cycling and hiking route.

Erlebnis Schwarzwaldbahn - Von Offenburg nach Singen

One of the most fascinating railway lines in Germany is the Black Forest Railway from Offenburg to Singen. The scenic uphill section with its numerous tunnels has been a challenge for locomotives and staff since it was opened.
Electric operations began here in 1976/77. Initially, the BR 139 and then the 110 series were used almost exclusively. Later, operations became more diverse and varied.

This illustrated book shows operations from around 1995 to the present day and proves that a visit to the famous mountain route is still worthwhile today.

Mit Dampf und Diesel durch den Schwarzwald - Erinnerungen an P 8, V 200 und die Eisenbahn von damals

The impressive black and white photographs for this illustrated book were taken in the 1960s and 1970s. The photographer Heinrich Baumann used them to capture operations on the Baden Black Forest Railway Offenburg - Konstanz, which at the time was mainly handled by the large diesel locomotives of the V 200 series.
On the branch lines between Freudenstadt, Rottweil and Schramberg, however, steam operations still dominated. Impressions of the narrow-gauge railway Nagold - Altensteig and of the first electric locomotives on the ramps between Hausach and Villingen round off this illustrated book.
