Pendant près de soixante ans, il fut considéré comme perdu : la Porsche 356 portant le numéro de châssis 5006, l'une des sept premières voitures de sport construites à Stuttgart.

En 2013, un appel téléphonique conduisit Thomas König et Oliver Schmidt dans un jardin envahi près de Brême. Là se trouvait bien la "plus ancienne Porsche". Après une spectaculaire récupération, le véhicule fut restauré pendant plusieurs années avec le plus grand soin dans son état d'origine de 1950.

König et Schmidt, fondateurs du musée Prototyp de Hambourg, collectionnent depuis longtemps des Porsche rares. Cette découverte fut pourtant l'un des moments les plus marquants de leur carrière.
