Char Sherman - Toutes les variantes du M4 depuis 1941
The studies for the American medium tank M4 "Sherman" began in 1941. Despite a rather crude design and lacking the firepower and thick armor of the German tanks, the Sherman had the advantage of being simpler to manufacture, reliable and easy to maintain.
With 49 500 examples produced, it was more numerous than the German Tiger and Panther.
During the Second World War, the Sherman served in the US Army and the US Marine Corps, the British Army and the armies of the Commonwealth, the USSR and Free France, the Polish government in exile, Brazil and China.
Many of them continued to serve for decades after the end of the conflict, notably during the fighting in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, and in the Israel Defense Forces during the Six-Day War in 1967 and the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
The text provides a detailed description of what is hidden behind the armour of this famous battle tank. It reports the experiences of those who used it in combat as well as the experiences of current collectors or enthusiasts about its maintenance and piloting.
