Les chars du programme E : Les Panzer de la dernière chance
In the minds of industrialists and Hitler, if it wanted to resist its adversaries, the Third Reich had to win the battle of innovation by producing equipment so superior that it would have no rivals on the ground and that the balance would tip in its favor again.
Quantity being definitively in favor of the United States and the Soviet Union which produced plethora of Medium Tanks M4 Sherman and medium tanks T-34/76, all that remained, in the eyes of German officials, was to continue to focus on quality while standardizing the components as much as possible and this was the whole point of the Entwicklungstype (standard types) program which was validated in April 1943.
The guiding idea is therefore to rationalize as much as possible the parts and other mechanical organs of the different armored vehicles, intended to equip the Wehrmacht and the Waffen SS, to simplify their factory production, and therefore increase the number of vehicles available, while facilitating logistics and maintenance in the field.
Richly illustrated with 3D views, this book sheds light on the E-10 and E-25 tank destroyers, and on the E-50, E-75 and E-100 tanks, the heaviest of which must exceed 100 tons and be armed with a 12.8cm gun.
