Tiger (paperback)

One of the most feared weapons of World War II, the Tiger tank was a beast of a machine which dominated the battlefields of Europe with its astonishing size, speed and firepower, which continues to fascinate more than 70 years after it was first designed.

Revealing its design and development history, Thomas Anderson draws upon original German archival material to tell the story of the birth of the Tiger. He then analyzes its success on the battlefield and the many modifications and variants that also came into play.
Illustrated throughout with rare photographs and drawings, this is a unique history of what is easily the most famous tank ever produced.

Der vorliegende Band zeigt den "Tiger" in der Truppe und im Einsatz. Ein weiteres Kapitel ist dem "Königstiger" gewidmet.

Tiger Tank - History, Design, Specifications, Combat Performance

The Tiger was the biggest and most powerful tank the world had seen when it first appeared in 1942. It could be a terrifying machine to the enemy when it was employed by commanders who understood its strengths and weaknesses. However, its virtues were often squandered.

With a limited range of operation thanks to its massive fuel consumption and prone to mechanical failure, it was never suitable for deep penetration of enemy positions, as was seen at Kursk. It was also defeated in mountainous terrain in Italy and Tunisia.

"Tiger Tank" traces the Tiger's history from the strategic requirements that created it, the technology that made it, to the conflicts that tested it. The book analyses the tactical doctrines that determined how it was deployed and examines how successful these were when the Tiger saw combat from Russia in 1942 to Berlin in 1945.

Specification tables provide manufacturing details, while comparative tables allow the reader to make at-a-glance assessments of how the Tiger matched its rivals. Authoritatively written and featuring 70 colour and black-&-white photographs, fully annotated colour cutaway and three-view profile artworks, "Tiger Tank" tells the story of World War II's most powerful tank.

The Tiger Ausf. B combined the pros and cons of German tank design and construction. Ideas for the Tiger Ausf. B were based on previous designs and omitted excesses and disadvantages of earlier vehicles.

This is the tank that allows us to evaluate what the German tank industry achieved and what could have happened in future developments. The book deals with the background and development of the Tiger Ausf. B, production history and construction features, as well as evaluation of the captured vehicles by the Red Army during field testing.
