Kübelwagen / Schwimmwagen - L'histoire, la conception, la mécanique et l'engagement operationnel
Designed by Ferdinand Porsche and produced by Volkswagen, the Type 82 Kübelwagen and its amphibious cousin the Type 128/166 Schwimmwagen were to the Germans what the Jeep was to the Allies. They were widely used by the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS during the Second World War.
These two robust utility vehicles resolutely fulfilled their role, both in the bitter winter cold of the Eastern Front and in the torrid heat of the Libyan Desert.
Reliability and sobriety are the marks of their success, and their legendary reputation will endure in the post-war period. In the 21st century, the surviving vehicles have become cult objects among collectors around the world.
The author analyzes the development of these classic utility vehicles of the German army and discusses in detail their design and characteristics, including engine and transmission. He describes their combat experience, giving their road holding characteristics and routine maintenance.
With more than 250 historical images, technical drawings and detailed photographs of restored vehicles, it allows a unique dive into the interior of these iconic vehicles.
