One of the most feared weapons of World War II, the Tiger gained an aura of invincibility that was only shattered by the introduction of the Sherman Firefly during the summer of 1944. Volume 1 of 'Der Tiger' introduces the s.Pz.Abt.501, which saw combat in Tunisia, Russia, Poland and Germany.
The tanks and crews are shown in the field, under maintenance, and after action. Arranged by timeline, place and sequence, images taken by photographers of the Propaganda companies and private photographs by members of the Abteilung, show its:
- formation in May 1942
- deployment to Tunisia (North Africa) at the end of November 1942
