Dutch Leander Frigate Van Speijk
The 6 Van Speijk class frigates were fitted with Dutch electronics and sensors. The British Leander design was selected to allow fast construction and to replace ageing escort ships for anti-submarine warfare and NATO patrol tasks.
The vessels were named HNLMS "Van Speijk" (F802)", "Van Galen" (F803), "Tjerk Hiddes" (F804), "Van Nes" (F805), "Isaac Sweers" (F814), and "Evertsen" (F815). In the late 1970s, the ships underwent a major modernisation programme. Between 1986 and 1990, all six frigates were transferred to the Indonesian Navy.
This book covers the history, construction and operational service of the Van Speijk class within the Royal Netherlands Navy.
