It began in 1945 with a self-built trailer and a borrowed towing vehicle. Motor vehicles of all kinds were transported on official orders. Bridge and ship scrap had to be recovered from the Rhine. Today, Colonia is the largest crane rental company and heavy load specialist on the Rhine, operating throughout Europe. Many of the special vehicles used in recent decades were constructed by the Cologne-based company itself. Using numerous unpublished images and with knowledgeable explanations, the authors document the eventful past and exciting present of Colonia's special vehicles.
