VW LT: Alle Modelle 1975 bis 1996
It is considered a true all-rounder: the cargo transporter from VW, better known by the abbreviation "LT". The model range of the first LT series was broad and covered the segment from 2.8 t to 5.6 t.
When it was released in 1975, Volkswagen positioned the LT as a clear competitor to the Mercedes 206/207 and Ford Transit. The new model was primarily intended to appeal to the large target group of commercial customers for whom the T2 and later the T3 were not enough: with numerous body variants - from panel vans to valuables transporters - the range offered a wide range of possible uses.
In addition, there were deployments with the fire brigade and rescue services, for whose needs specialist companies individually converted the vehicles. Bus and mobile home manufacturers also discovered the possibilities offered by the LT.
And you can still see them today: LT models that have been in use for well over 30 years with tradesmen, dealers and bus companies. You also meet those motorhome enthusiasts who enjoy the hard-wearing LT travel companions and look after and care for the surviving models.
Meticulously researched and enriched with extensive previously unpublished image material, commercial vehicle expert and automotive journalist Matthias Röcke tells the history and stories of the first large VW transporter that was built until 1996 in his book.
